Monday Morning Design Wall 4/16/2012

 Ah, another week and I am almost done with this applique quilt top.  Only a few left to do and I am already working on the framing for each block.  As you can see below, I have actually included a picture of the actual design wall as I am working on block placement.  I did not get as much done as I hoped because the camping trip for my son and his German exchange student was cancelled due to rain.  Rain?  Really?  I tried to talk them into going...."What is a little rain when you can camp?"  Needless to say, they did not go for it.  The weather did clear up in time for the Group Trip to Muir Woods in Marin, California and then a trip after to Muir Beach for lunch and some fun in the sun.  The German kids really enjoyed the Pacific ocean with a couple of them attempting swimming!

 I tried to explain to the kids that the surfers were wearing wet suites for a reason but they still went in the water.  They did have fun and learned to throw an American football!

 I just realized that the eyes are missing from my bird!

I will need to get those done as soon as possible so I don't forget to finish off the bird.  I really like the block borders, not too scrappy as I am keeping to four colors with the pink inside each block.

Monday Morning Design Wall 4/9/2012

 

More applique for me now as I spent the entire day Sunday sewing together the blocks for my double wedding ring quilt.  I only have 5 or 6 blocks left in My Whimsical Quilt Garden quilt by Piece O Cake!  Needless to say, since I have four or five more projects lined up I will manage to keep myself busy when these are done.  I am so hoping to get TONS of stuff done this week as my 14 year old is in Mexico for Spring Break with the church youth group and the 17 year old and his German Exchange Student, Moritz, are going camping in Santa Cruz for a couple of days...so no dinners to cook, no breakfast for the entire week and time for me to quilt and sew. 

Nicolas and Moritz enjoyed Baker's Beach in San Francisco on Saturday and are looking forward to the beach in Santa Cruz.   Remember to check out Judy's blog and see all the other design walls.

Monday Morning Design Wall 4/2/2012

Another week and the top for my Double Wedding Ring is complete (well each piece is done) and now all I have to do it sew them all together.  I did this in 8 days!  Finished up on Friday night at 11:00 p.m. and let me tell you, that was not the smartest thing I did.  I actually spent half an hour unsewing because I was so tired that I but the last piece on wrong!!  Bur then, since I was so tired and so close to being done, I just powered through and finished everything up.  I think it looks great and I am so excited to have made one of these quilts. 

I have also included pictures of my three applique blocks that I completed these last few weeks.  For some reason they keep loading sideways and after tying to get them to turn out right side up, I have finally given up and surrendered to the program.  Just turn your computer on its side and they will look normal!!  these are blocks from Piece of Cake Designs called My Whimsical Quilt Garden.  Just having a blast working on them.  I hope to be able to start bordering them and putting them together in rows by the end of the week so I need to get the Double Wedding Ring off my design wall.  Remember to check out Judy's blog and see the rest of the design walls. Monday Morning Design Wall 3/26/2012

YES, a double wedding ring quilt started!!  YIPPEE....and yes, just in case you are wondering I have been working on applique but this is just so stunning  I'll catch everyone up next week.....  This class was my birthday present to myself and was so worth it. 

I enjoyed a two day class taught by Don Linn at Cloth Carousel in Winter' California, who drove from Redding California to Winters California  and back to Redding each day for this class (2.5 hours each way).  I had a blast with my other quilt makers and we rocked!!  So much fun to do and not as difficult as you might think, just keep your 1/4 inch seams and dog ears and you are good to go.  I am hoping to make this a four ring by five ring but we will see as I make more rings this next week.  Don't forget to check out Judy's blog and see all the other design walls out there. 

Monday Morning Design Wall 3/19/2012

Another great week on the applique circuit, three more blocks completed for the BOM at Cloth Carousel.  So what that I have no idea which block they are working on for March 2012, if I do them all, I will eventually get to the right one!  

Had a blast today at the Valley Quilt Guild show in Yuba City, California.  I was so impressed with all the beautiful quilts.  I saw the most beautiful Dear Jane quilt with a wonderful story and I cannot wait to start mine.....hopefully this summer.    Thanks for checking out my design wall and don't forget to check out Judy's blog and see the rest of the wonderful quilt work in progress.

Monday Morning Design Wall 3/12/2012

Another week and three more blocks!  I am having a blast as I am using fabric outside of my comfort zone and just having fun with the design and the colors.  The crazier the better!  This is so NOT like me so I am having a bit of difficulty but the more I do it, the better it seems to go.  My favorite fabric is the green polka dot and the red plaid fabrics so as that goes, the flower block with the red plaid is the best yet!  Now this is the Cloth Carousel's Applique BOM but there are only 12 months in the year and 20 block patterns!   I figured I would just do them all in order and eventually hit all the blocks they pull for the BOM!  I'll just be a step ahead.

Love the pink flowers on this one, but the leaves were my favorite!!  The point of one leaf was difficult but I finally got it.  Persistence is a virtue. 

Monday Morning Design Wall 3/5/2012

YES! The last of 10 Hawaiian blocks is completed!  Now I just need to figure out a setting solution for the blocks (see below).  I am still undecided if I go ahead and make two more just to have 12 (easier to set) or just work with the 10.    Hummm....decisions, decisions.

I also started the Cloth Carousel Applique Block of the Month, which is My Whimsical Quilt Garden by Becky Goldsmith & Linda Jenkins.  Can you believe that the first block for the BOM was Block 5??  I can't start on Block 5!  I need to do them in order!   I finished Block 1 today and have block two started and am ready to get going on #3, #4 and #5!!

 Order and sense makes me happy so starting from #1 makes me happy!  I will strive to catch up and be on Block 5 when needed!
