Monday Morning Design Wall 2/25/2013

Although the quilt is far bigger than my design wall, I finally sewed on the borders of the 1849 Baltimore Album quilt I have been working on and it is HUGE. It dwarfs my design wall and really looks great.  I am so close to being done with this one I cannot wait to get it pinned and start quilting it.  I also finished another block of my UFO that I am trying to finish up.  One more block and I will almost be done with this one also.  I worry that I will run out of projects but then I just glance at my pile of UFO's and realize that I could work on just that pile for the next year and never finish!!  Happy Monday and remember to check out Judy's blog and see all the other design walls.

Monday Morning Design Wall 2/18/2013

I did the smart thing this weekend and took out a UFO to finish before I start a new project!  I was caught up in starting another quilt when I realized that I would be better off finishing one up first!!  I know, not natural, but so necessary as I can no longer find the bed in the spare room due to all the UFO's stacked up on it.  I spent the weekend traveling 5 hours north to Humboldt State in Arcata California so my son could take a look at the campus.  Yep, 5 hours up and 5 hours back almost to the Oregon border.  I took my Hawaiian quilt with and finished an entire corner with hand quilting during the long car ride. I love the texture that the little squares bring out in the background.  I have had no time this past week for machine quilting as I have been working late and then trying to catch up on everything at home but this next week, watch out!!  I am ready to go and hopefully finish up a quilt at some point!  Tomorrow is a day off of work for President's Day and I am so looking forward to getting some stuff done!  Sewing machine, here I come!

Monday Morning Design Wall 2/4/2013

Machine Quilting Weekend!!  I had a blast this weekend as I spent almost the entire day Saturday and Sunday quilting a background called Cathedral Windows on my applique quilt.  Hard to see as it is white on white but it adds texture and a shadow to the background.   It was so addictive, you outline the 1/2 inch squares and then start the window movement and it goes so smoothly and quickly, it gets done before you know it.  If you are interested in this background, check out Cindy Needham's Craftsy class, she details it all out there.  I also started my border for the Erin Russek BOM but only got half way.  Remember to check out Judy blog to see all the other design walls.  Sorry to all my friends who are 49er fans!!

Monday Morning Design Wall 1/28/2013

Another busy week and I am so close to being done with all the applique for Mimi's Bloomers by Erin Russek.  I added a couple of blocks and am making corner blocks to match.  It is looking so pretty!!  I have jury duty tomorrow so I am going to the court house with my sewing in my bag!  I will leave my scissors at home but I will bring nail clippers!  Last time I had to sit for 3 hours before we were called into the court room so I need to make sure I am prepared with something to keep me busy!!  I have been working on my machine quilting and I just need to find more hours in the day to get stuff done!  I think I will give up sleep for Lent!!  Think about all I could get done in a day if I did not sleep!!  Oh, well, it is just a dream!  Happy Sewing.  Don't forget to check out Judy's blog and see the rest of the design walls.

Monday Morning Design Wall 1/14/2013

Good Morning!!  I had the best weekend every as I took Cindy Needham's Beginning Machine Quilting Class in Sacramento!!  All I can say is WOW!  I learned so much.  As you can see by the back of my Black/White/Yellow circle quilt, I can now feather!!  Yes, free form feathers!!  I learned my hum/purr feeling for the machine, slowing my hands down and not creating "toe catching stitches".  SO MUCH FUN!!

I will say that I was so exhausted after the class I went to bed really early last night and could still use a bit of down time today!  I cannot wait to finish this quilt as I have planned out the quilting on the next three already!   Her talk on design was fantastic and makes me just want to take more classes on design for machine quilting.  I will be very busy for the next several weeks working on these projects and may have to get a second job to pay for all the thread I will need but that is life!!

Monday Morning Design Wall 1/7/2013

Good Morning!  I am working on my border setting triangles for the Mimi's Bloomers quilt and having a blast.  I am trying to bring in my inspiration fabric into the corner blocks and so far, so good!!   I need to make 10 of them and then decided on the color of the rails and corner stones for the entire quilt!  This Thursday I am off to Beginning Machine Quilting class taught by Cindy Needham in Rancho Cordova, California.  I cannot wait.  I have so many tops and I cannot hand quilt fast enough with a full time job, 4 kids, dog, husband and workout time to get as many done as I need to!  I need to learn to machine quilt, if it kills me or Cindy!!!   I am bringing 5 quilt tops I already sewed Every Stinking Seam on and then a couple of completed tops that I just need ideas to figure out what to do!  I need to stop working on my applique and pack up for the class pretty darn quick or Thursday morning will come around and I will not be prepared!  Remember to check out the other design walls on Judy's blog.

Monday Morning Design Wll 12/31/2012

Happy New Year to everyone. I have enjoyed more time off of work this past week than I have have in several years.  Back to work on Wednesday but wow, amazing how much can get done each day when you do not have to go to work!!  I am frantically finishing up projects so I an start a new one sometime soon but I am realizing that I really need to finish up some of the many I have started. I am almost done with Mimi's Bloomers, Erin Russek's 2012 BOM so I am just working on setting solutions.  I may have to make an extra block or two (boo hoo) but it should be stunning.  I am planning on doing applique in the corner blocks also!!    Below is the finishing touches for My Whimsical Quilt Garden borders, which are almost done, a few more days and I will be pinning it.  Now to get ready for the Beginning Machine Quilting Class I am taking in a week or so!!  So excited because there is hope I can get some of these projects completely finished up, quilted and bound, so I can start the next wonderful applique project.  Remember to check out the rest of the design walls on Judy's blog.
